Exploring the Growing Opportunities in Cannabis
On February 16th, 2023, the Maine Office of Cannabis Policy passed a bill that provides equitable civil and criminal protections to those with a valid authorization for the use of medical cannabis. This bill ensures that those who have a valid authorization but have chosen not to be entered into the state’s database are protected from arrest, prosecution, or other criminal sanctions or civil consequences for certain violations of state law relating to cannabis.
In addition, a bill from Sen. Janice Bowling (R-Tullahoma) was also passed in March that would legalize the use of medical cannabis in Tennessee.[0] The FDA has not yet approved the use of cannabis for medical purposes, however, many states allow it for the treatment of pain, nausea, and other conditions.[0]
By the end of 2022, the first legal recreational marijuana dispensary opened in New York City.[1] Legally Rooted, located on 6th Street, opened its doors Friday with a ribbon cutting ceremony to become the first dispensary in the Queen City.[2] Additionally, medical cannabis patients are also now allowed to grow up to four plants for personal use, rather than two under the current law.[3]
