Johns Hopkins Study Finds CBD Enhances THC Effects, As Legalization of Cannabis Grows Across US

On February 7, 2023, a study led by researchers at Johns Hopkins Medicine found that CBD may increase the effects of THC in edible cannabis products, resulting in stronger, longer-lasting drug interactions. The research team demonstrated that with a relatively high oral dose of CBD (640 mg) there can be significant metabolic interactions between THC and CBD, such that the THC effects are stronger, longer-lasting, and tend to reflect an increase in unwanted adverse effects.

As 2022 came to a close, New York City took its first brave steps to open a legal recreational marijuana dispensary, becoming the first dispensary to open in the Queen City.[0] On Friday, February 17, 2023, Minnesota House Education Finance Committee was the ninth panel to approve a bill that would legalize recreational cannabis.[1] The packaging and labels for the products would be child-proof, with Poison Control contact information included.[1]

In addition, Maryland lawmakers introduced legislation Friday to create the framework for a legal cannabis market ahead of the July 1 start of legalization.[2]
