Cannabis Industry Experiences Rapid Growth in the US

Over the past decade, the cannabis industry has experienced tremendous growth in the United States.[0] With 21 states and the District of Columbia legalizing recreational usage, 39 states allowing medicinal use, and 68% of Americans supporting legal cannabis, it is clear that the public's perception of the drug has shifted.[1]

This shift was made even more apparent with the recent opening of New York City’s first recreational marijuana dispensary.[0] Legally Rooted, located on 6th Street, opened its doors with a ribbon cutting ceremony on January 16th, 2021, becoming the first dispensary to open in the Queen City.[2]

The legalization of recreational marijuana in the US is not just a milestone for cannabis businesses, but for criminal justice reform as well. After years of federal cannabis prohibition, President Biden granted pardons to thousands of Americans with federal, low-level cannabis convictions.

It is clear that the cannabis industry is here to stay, and that it is a rapidly growing and increasingly accepted industry. As states move to legalize cannabis, businesses and consumers alike can expect to see more dispensaries, products, and policies in the future.
